Reading other cemetery bloggers’ posts whets my appetite for more cemetery explorations. Here are a few more places I would like to visit, some of them much closer to home.
Sandusky, Ohio, has a cemetery for victims of a cholera epidemic in 1849.
Johnson’s Island in the Sandusky Bay of Lake Erie was the site of a Civil War prisoner of war camp, and has a cemetery with the graves of Confederates who died there.
Also near the Sandusky Bay, Wolcott Cemetery is where the original keeper of the Marblehead lighthouse, among others, is buried.
McPherson Cemetery is named for the highest-ranking Ohio soldier to die in the Civil War, Major General James B. McPherson. He was killed in battle during Sherman’s Atlanta campaign.
