I found this statue atop the Foster monument to be compelling, possibly because of what is absent: I’m sure that there was one a thin rail of stone thrusting upward that marked the item in her hand as a cross.
Seeing how high up she stands, I have to wonder how the cross came to be broken. She stands higher than the surrounding trees, and winds would have to be fairly severe to rip a branch upward to strike her before falling to the ground. Perhaps it was a flaw in the stone?
