Most cemetery sculptures of angels display their wings at rest or half-extended, as if they have just landed after flight. Very few sculptors create them with wings stretched out to the side. That feature seems to be one of the things that gives the Haserot angel its power of almost grotesque fascination.
So when I spied another pair of outstretched angel wings from one of the high points of Lake View Cemetery, gazing down into the trees, I had to find it. It took me two tries before I managed to locate her.
She stands guard over the Corner family plot at Lake View, part of a small isolated section in front of the dam in one of the lowest points of the cemetery.
If you look very carefully in this photo, you can see the Corner family name covered in but not quite obscured by snow.
