The name in my head for these crosses is ground crosses, but I’ve never read that anywhere else. It’s something I’ve made up entirely on my own to describe crosses that are placed flat on the ground (or low and parallel to the ground, like on a grave slab).

The ground cross that stuns me with it fragility is this one for Louise that sits near a Wheeler family monument at Lake View. This little cross is set in the ground by now, and could easily sink out of sight if care is not taken to keep it visible.
