I have always loved Celtic crosses and knotwork. Simply defined a Celtic cross is a cross with a circle or ring centering around the intersection of the arms of the cross. Celtic crosses make up the majority of crosses on monuments that I have seen in cemeteries, and here are a few from Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland.
The grave of teenager Harry Studley is marked with a Celtic cross:
The O’Brien family plot marker includes this lovely Celtic cross. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb too far if I guess that the O’Briens are of Irish descent.
Martha Bolles has this diminutive Celtic cross over her grave. The back reads “Jesu merci.”
